Job Description:

EEG technician professionals are mainly tasked to operate the electroencephalograph. This device is primarily used to gauge the patient's brain activity, and monitor the nervous system. EEG technician professionals measure the electrical impulses produced by the patient's brain and nervous system to diagnose medical conditions, such as epilepsy, Alzheimer's, and brain tumor.

EEG technician professionals are generally responsible for conducting and supervising the EEG test. Normally, EEG technician professionals assume the following tasks and responsibilities:

• get patient's medical history and other relevant information prior to the procedure
• explain the procedure to the patient before commencing with the EEG test

EEG technician professionals spend most of their time conducting EEG tests to different patients on a daily basis. They usually work inside the examination room, and maintain a close working relationship with other healthcare professionals. It is important that they have excellent interpersonal skills since they will have direct contact with the patients.

Education and Training Requirements:

To qualify for an entry-level EEG technician position, aspirants are required to have at least a high school diploma and a CPR certification. Most hospitals offer on-the-job trainings, hence why formal education and training is not much of an issue. However, many employers still prefer those who have earned graduate degrees. That being said, EEG technician aspirants are advised to complete an associate degree in Allied Health to gain a competitive edge.
